Teen Therapy
You’re in constant conflict.
Your teen won’t talk to you anymore.
They trust their friends more than they trust you.
Everything feels like a battle.
Parenting a teenager can be ROUGH. Things are different now and some days it feels like more than either of you can handle.
Even with all the patience in the world you still feel like you might lose it sometimes and it feels harder than ever to get through them.
It’s OK to ask for help.
I work with bright, motivated, insightful teens who need a little help getting back on track. Even the most put together teenager struggles sometimes. But hey, that’s ok.
What do teens need help with?
Anxiety
Your teen might feel anxious about going to school, become easily overwhelmed, or sometimes just seem like a nervous wreck. Maybe they crumble under pressure or even put too much pressure on themselves.
Peer Conflict
Maybe it seems like your teen struggles in the social department or has constant peer conflict. The ripple effect of this can extend to academics, attendance, and overall performance.
Conflict at home
Perhaps there’s been a breach of trust and communication is at an all time low. Maybe there’s been a huge blowout in the family that needs a little TLC or boundaries are being tested.
Romantic relationships
Whether you like it or not maybe your teen has started experimenting with romantic relationships which can sometimes send them into an absolute tailspin if it’s not going well. They’re learning how to develop healthy relationship boundaries but might need a little guidance.
College
Maybe it’s college app time (can we say STRESS?) Applying for college while maintaining regularly scheduled programming is so overwhelming. Or maybe it’s time to spread their wings and fly and head off to college, this can be a hard transition for both teens and their parents (and sometimes siblings too!)
How do I help?
After 10 years of working with teenagers believe me when I say I’ve seen it all (well..almost). Because most of the kids I work with struggle with some type of anxiety I tend to use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (really great for challenging those nagging negative thoughts) and Mindfulness (awesome tools to help kids regulate their emotions and be focused on the present moment). But I believe my best tool is myself.
I pride myself on being able to bring a relaxed, light hearted nature to my therapy sessions and help teens feel comfortable (it’s hard to open up and talk about your feelings!) We’ll definitely tackle the nitty gritty but it’s also important to me that I have the opportunity to build rapport with my teens. I believe that a strong, trusting relationship can be a huge catalyst for change. I want the teens I work with to walk away from our sessions feeling like they were truly understood and excited to continue doing the work to make positive changes in their lives.
